Taking a break from our series on hearing loss for a moment, I'd like to pass on some interesting video of a hearing aid user with severe to profound high-frequency hearing loss.
This particular person has been using hearing aids for quite some time, but her new aids, Phonak Naida's, incorporate frequency compression, a very promising processing algorithmn. As you watch the three videos, pay close attention to how her speech production improves, particularly from the first to the third video.

More and more hearing devices are incorporating this type of technology as researchers are learning more about how to best apply it. The most prominent manufacturers that feature frequency compression are Widex (Inteo and Mind hearing aid lines) as well as Phonak (Naida, Exelia Art and Audeo Yes lines), both of which are available in our office.
As an audiologist, who has spent years trying to make certain sounds of speech audible to patients with signifcant high frequency hearing loss, this technology is pretty exciting to say the least.
